Bovine colostrum is becoming popular due to its immune boosting qualities. According to the American Journal of Natural Medicine, March 1998, by Zoltan Rona, M.D., Ayurvedic physicians in India have used bovine colostrum for therapeutic purposes for thousands of years. Conventional doctors in the United States and throughout the world used it as an antibiotic before sulfa drugs and penicillin was available.
Dr. Rona states that in the 1950's, it was prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis extensively. Also in the 50's, Dr. Albert Sabin, who developed the polio vaccine, discovered that the antibodies in colostrum were effective against polio and recommended it to children susceptible to the disease.
North American Scientists and healthcare practitioners have rediscovered colostrum in the past five years. Pharmaceutical companies have attempted to copy, patent, and market components of colostrum. Medical specialists because of it's immune factors and growth factors have used many of the components in colostrum
Dr. Rona lists many illnesses that benefit from colostrum including AIDS, allergies, arthritis, asthma, attention deficit disorder, bacterial infections, chronic fatigue syndrome, candidiasis, Crohn's disease, depression, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, parasites, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Clinicians usually prescribe 1,000 to 2,000mg twice a day of dried encapsulated colostrum for adults who have serious immune system diseases. It is to be taken on an empty stomach with water (8 to 12 ounces).
