Anyone who has taken antibiotics has probably ended up with an upset stomach or diarrhea. This happens when the friendly bacteria are destroyed as well as the bad bacteria. Acidophilus (lactobacillus bifidus) can prevent this from happening by protecting the friendly bacteria and keeping the intestinal flora healthy. A healthy intestinal flora will manufacture the B-complex vitamins we need as well as Vitamin K.
There are many adverse symptoms associated with an unhealthy intestinal flora. Some result in nausea, vomiting, constipation and other bowel abnormalities and allergies to certain foods. By keeping the friendly bacteria intact, the unhealthy bacteria can be destroyed and removed. Some people who are lactose intolerant may benefit from taking acidophilus.
