Pain Reliever Warning! If you have liver disease, be careful of the pain reliever you choose. Acetaminophen is often thought to be better than aspirin, however, it can cause or exacerbate liver problems, especially if you consume alcoholic beverages.
Acetaminophen does not reduce inflammation or swelling, but it works well to reduce fever and relieve pain.
Serious interactions can occur if you take acetaminophen while on oral anticoagulants, certain barbiturates, Isoniazid, Zidovudine (AZT). Over a long period of time, there can be serious side effects if acetaminophen is taken with aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories.
Read the labels on products because many cold and sinus medications have acetaminophen in them.
